Responding To A Critic … Here’s My Response

After returning from my family vacation, I received this delightful little message in my Facebook account.

Normally, I don’t care about people that attack me or my companies.  I subscribe to the theory that in order to do anything great in your life, you are going to invite criticism.  It comes with the territory.

With that said, as I was responding to this woman, I thought to myself “others should get the chance to read this too”.

So here is my response to this woman and her sentiment of “Why is your service not free, when it is public record?”

[Name Removed]

If it is free, then by all means go and do it. You certainly do not need our service. What you are sure to find is that the data is not indeed free.

Yes, it is public data, but the collection, filtering. accumulating, and reporting on that data is anything but free. We offer a service to our clients from around the world that takes information and puts it into a readable, reportable, and usable format that otherwise would take them weeks or months to do on their own and we offer this service at 1/10th of the price of our nearest competitor and we offer the service in absence of your local clerk’s office offering it to you.

If indeed you believe that it is free, then again by all means go to your county clerk’s office and spend your most valuable resource (time) getting that information for free. Then spend that same resource verifying the data, creating the marketing pieces, testing the marketing pieces, printing the letters, stuffing the envelopes, and mailing the pieces – for free.

Our entire organization is based on one simple concept – saving people the one thing that they cannot afford to waste – time. We invest hundreds of thousands of dollars every year getting this data into a useful format for our clients.  In addition, our team invests countless hours each and every month building, testing, and perfecting these systems for our clients. We are proud of the work we do and the time and money that we ultimately save our clients.

With that said, I know that we are not right for everyone and we have no problem parting ways with those that do not value or service.

I hope that helps to clarify our position on the subject for you.Take Care,

Kent

Listen, if you’re not creating critics, then you’re not trying hard enough.  Stand up for what you do, what you believe in, what you stand for, and what you stand against.

That’s all that matters.
