Blog Basics for Effective Digital Marketing

Build a Blog for Your Real Estate Investment Business Marketing

I’ve talked a lot about the importance of marketing, web presence, SEO and direct mail marketing, but I haven’t really touched on the importance of having a blog. Positioning yourself as an authority in your field, and creating a space on your website that allows for dynamic new content, are just two elements that go into effective digital marketing for your real estate investment business. A blog will help you accomplish both of those tasks.

It is true that the blogosphere is pretty crowded these days given that pretty much anybody can create a blog about anything they want to. Unfortunately that makes for a lot of mediocre blogs on the web, with mediocre content. So how do you stand out?

Create a Business Blog That is Compelling

In order to create a blog that will get noticed and stay “sticky”, your need to take a “selective approach” to blogging, and then offer something worthwhile to your readers.

So let’s talk about selective approach. When I say selective approach I’m talking about your readers.  You’ve got to dial in your audience. Define very clearly whom you are speaking to before you get started.  Then define what you are going to talk about based on that.

Real Estate Investment, for example, is a pretty broad topic. You’ve probably already decided on either an authoritative approach or “watch and learn” kind of approach. Now what you’ve got to do is define your audience by determining which particular areas of real estate investing you want to focus on. There are probably an endless number of subjects you could cover when it comes to cash flow or investment rental properties. The same thing can be said for fix and flip kind of investing. For that matter, you could have an entire blog that is about all types of real estate investment, but with a focus on your local market.

When you dial down a specific kind of blog niche, you narrow down your competition for blog readers out there. Those who want what you have to offer will keep coming back and share with others in your area of investing interest.

The other key element that I mentioned was worthwhile content. If you write junk, no one is going to stick around for more. Now you may be saying to yourself, “but I’m not a good writer!” That’s ok- you’ve got to have a blog. You don’t have to write it yourself. Hire a good ghostwriter who has (or is willing to obtain) a thorough understanding of your business, as well as your business philosophy.

When you’ve molded your blog for maximum engagement, you’ll leave no doubt as to what your site and your blog are all about. That will help your site’s SEO as well as build your credibility as an authority in your business.
